PRESS RELEASE from William Shore Memorial Pool District

Neeley Construction, with offices in Sequim and Puyallup, has been selected as the general contractor in the competition to provide general contractor/construction manager (GC/CM) services for the $13 million William Shore Pool renovation and expansion project.

A public bid opening on fee proposals was held June 7, 2018, following an extensive evaluation process that included Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Final Proposal (RFFP) processes,a short list to three finalists, and interviews with each proposing team. Other teams on the short list were: HITT Construction and Washington Patriot. The selection committee included Bill Peach, District Board Commissioner, Randy Johnson, District Board Commissioner, Steven Burke, Executive Director/Project Manager, Paul Curtis, Project Architect, and Steve Zenovic, Owner’s Representative.

The District Board of Commissioner’s choose to use the GC/CM procurement process for the project because it allows the General Contractor to be part of the design and engineering phase to assist in the constructability and biding of the subcontractor work. This significantly reduces the amount of change orders, establishes a maximum guaranteed cost, and allows more local contractor participation.

In March of 2018, Rep. Mike Chapman and Rep. Steve Thairnger, of the 24th Legislative District, helped secure $1.5 million in state funding for the project.

Rep. Chapman said, “this project is a vital and significant project for our community and it is great that a local general contractor has been selected, keeping most of the construction money in our local community”. “Having secured state funds for this project helped reduce the burden on local taxpayers as well.”

Bill Peach, President of the William Shore Pool District, said “the selection process was a thorough and exhaustive process and the winning contractor will be a great asset to our project team and I am excited that a local contractor was awarded the contract.”

The renovation and expansion project will incorporate a new entrance and locker rooms on the Westside of the facility facing Lincoln St. It will also add three new bodies of water, including:
1. A warm water exercise pool,
2. An activity pool that will have a lazy river, splash play features and a vortex ring, and
3. A Hydrotherapy spa that will hold 10-12 persons.

The District looks forward to working with a high-quality professional contractor with a strong local presence in our community on this project. The school district, along with A|R|C Architects, will be working closely with Neeley Contruction during preconstruction for the project. Updates for the community will be posted on the District website, williamshorepool.org.
