Alvin Neeley, the original founder of Neeley Construction passed away on April 4, 2017 at the age of 92. Al started Neeley Construction and Cabinet Company back in the 60’s. Today his legacy lives on here at Neeley Construction, he will be forever missed and always remembered. Alvin L. Neeley Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend to Many Al was the first-born to parents Fred L. and Malvina (Glabais) Neeley on 7-15-1924. He passed away from a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer at home on 4-4-2017. He grew up in South Prairie, where he attended elementary school and Buckley High School. The family moved to Puyallup after their house burned down. He graduated from Puyallup High School in 1942, where he met his wife, Margie. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 (WWII), and served proudly on the aircraft carrier USS Guadalcanal which was instrumental in capturing the German submarine U-505 on 6-4-1944. He visited the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, which displays the sub, and was honored at the dedication of the new underground display. Al and Margie married on 11-12-1944 and recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. After his tour of duty he returned to Puyallup and started working in the cabinet and construction industry. Al was a respected Puyallup businessman. He started his own business, Neeley Construction and Cabinet Co. Inc., in the 60’s, which is still operating today with a 3rd generation of Neeleys. Al was a member of the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2308, the Shriners, and the Linden Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed many activities: hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards with friends, and traveling to Kauai and California. He was very talented in woodworking, including carving and wood turning. He carved hundreds of wooden stars, which he gave to many. Al had an inventive mind that was appreciated by all. Al was preceded by his parents, Fred and Malvina Neeley, and his brothers Ralph, Jim, and Fred. Al leaves behind his loving wife Margie, son Al (Skeet) and his wife Jan, son John and his wife Linda, grandchildren Jill Davis (Steve) and their children, Taylor, Tommy and Callie; Johnny Neeley (Doris) and their children Kortney (Christian) and Kelsy; Mitch Neeley (Shannon) and their children Sam and Molly; and Wes Neeley (Erin) and their children Elliot and Edith; sisters Ruth Schacherer and Colleen Altheide, many loving nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends Marie Littlefield and Ron Book. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in Al’s name to the charity of your choice .
